Constructionism in Practice

Using Constructionism in the classroom allows for students become introduced to the process in building artifacts while learning the process. A good example of a constructionist strategy would be a Wiki. Wiki's allow students to create pages and are allowed to add on pictures and audio to enhance the cognitive learning experience. Wiki's are also published documents, when students here those words they feel the need to produce something great. They find that building Wiki's can be challenging but neccesary for students to grow and develop how to produce problem solving answers.

  1. Great point on mentioning that the published work makes the students "feel the need to publish something great." There is no doubt that students will put more effort into their work when they see the purpose. Not only do wikis help with problem solving and team building, but it also helps with their language art skills, which seems to be on a heavy decline with students today.

  2. Wiki is definitely a web tool that allows the students to "build an external artifact or something they can share with others",as Dr. Orey explains in the video presentation that the constructionist theory is based on.The wkik is also a very good tool for students to collaborate with each other. This encourages the students to work at their best as in interact with others.

  3. I too really like the use of Wikis in my class. I teach world geogrphy and the creation of Wikis are a great way for the studetns to organize the information. Like you said they are also good because of the gratification students get from the creation of something published on the internet. It is something they can go and show their families and friends and be pround of.
